Why Westlife's Nicky Byrne entering Eurovision is significant
Last year Ireland's entry failed to reach the sista once again but it appears in 2016 they want to be real contenders.
They have ditched selecting a contestant via a public vote and instead left the decision to the professionals.
A panel of experts chose Nicky Byrne, who for years toured the world as part of the boy band Westlife.
The hope is that Nicky's popularity, showmanship and experience will be just the thing Ireland needs to win the competition for an eighth time.
And he is equipped with a strong, catchy pop song, which he wrote with Wayne Hector, who was behind seven of Westlife's number one hits, and Irish composer, Ronan Hardiman.
