    Indonesian Contemporary Artist

    I Nyoman Masriadi (born 1973) is a painter and a leading artist of the post-Suharto era in Indonesia. His works have gained a collectors base which includes prominent collectors in and around the region.[1]

    Masriadi was born 1973, in Gianyar, Bali. Masriadi received his training in art at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts, Yogyakarta (ISI).

    In Bali, where he was born, there were two traditions of painting - a sacred one and one of words for a Western audience - but his relationship to these is indirect. Masriadi received his training in art at the Institute Seni Indonesia (ISI) Yogyakarta. From the time he was an art lärling, he had already been recognized by peers as one of the first contemporary Balinese artists who eased himself away from an encompassing concern with Balinese life, culture and traditions in his works.     ADRIEN JEAN LE MAYEUR dem MERPRES

     (Belgian, b. Feb. 9th, 1880 – d. May 31, 1958)

    Jean Le Mayeur is a painter best known for his sensual images of Balinese women, including his beautiful Balinese wife, the dancer Ni Pollok. According to art historians Dr. Job Ubbens and Cathinka Huizing, Jean Le Mayeur was “… an exponent of late European Impressionism, which favors a gentle, earthy palette of yellow, brown, beige and soft blue which is contrasted to red, pink, orange and purple accents.”

    Le Mayeur was the youngest of 2 brothers born in Ixelles, Brussels, to Andrien Le Mayeur De Merpres, a painter, and his wife Louise Di Bosch. Young Jean studied painting with Ernest Blanc-

    Affandi is Indonesia’s best known modern painter. His painting style is particularly well known and frequently involved work nit using brushes but his fingers or simply squirting the paint onto the canvas straight from the tube.

    He was born in Cirebon, West Java. He founded the Community Art organisation in 1946 and the People’s Artist organisation the following year.

    He travelled to India in the 1950s on a grant from the Indian government and continued on to England, France, Belgium, Holland and Italy, painting and exhibiting as he went.

    He received the Indonesian Government Gold Medal in 1978.

    A museum dedicated solely to his life and work has been established in Yogyakarta, central Java.
