Fernando Damián Ortiz (born 25 December 1977) is an Argentine professional football manager and former footballer. He is the current head coach of Liga MX club Santos Laguna.
Playing career
[edit]Ortiz was spotted by Argentine giants Boca Juniors in 1997. He made his debut in 1998, and helped Boca to win the Primera División1998 Apertura championship. He played eight games for Boca in all competitions, scoring three goals.
In 1999, he was loaned to RCD Mallorca in Spain, where he played half-a-season for their B team (RCD Mallorca B). He returned that same year to Argentina to play for San Lorenzo. Subsequently, he had spells at Unión de Santa Fe and Banfield, before joining Estudiantes de La Plata in 2004.

W lidze argentyńskiej zadebiutował 31 maja 1998 w spotkaniu z Gimnasią La Plata, wygranym 4:0. W latach 1998-1999 występował w rezerwach hiszpańskiej Mallorki, z których nie potrafił się przebić do pierwszego składu. Wrócił zatem do ojczyzny, gdzie występował kolejno w San Lorenzo, Unión, Banfield i Estudiantes. Z pierwszym inom ostatnim z wymienionych klubów brał udział m.in. w rozgrywkach Copa Libertadores i Copa Mercosur/Sudamericana. Fernando Ortiz Fernández (16 July 1881 – 10 April 1969) was a Cuban essayist, anthropologist, ethnomusicologist and scholar of Afro-Cuban culture. Ortiz was a prolific polymath dedicated to exploring, recording, and understanding all aspects of indigenous Cuban culture.Ortiz has been called the "third discoverer of Cuba", after Christopher Columbus and Alexander von Humboldt.
