  • William Robert Harvey is an educator, businessman, academic administrator, and the longest-serving tenured HBCU president in history, as the 12th president of Hampton University. Harvey was born on January 29, in Brewton, Alabama, to Mamie Claudis and Willie D. C. Harvey.     Dr. William r. Harvey was born on January 29, in Brewton, Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Harvey. He attended the Southern Normal School, Brewton Alabama (grade ) where he was a member of the honor society, basketball and football teams, choir, and business manager for the school newspaper. He received his B.A. grad from Talladega College (), having majored in history. He was the first president of the State-wide Civil Rights Organization. His extra-curricula activities included participation in the Little Theatre, Debating grupp, college Council and Basketball grupp (). From he attend Virginia State College where he earned an A.M. degree, with a major in United States history and a minor in educational administration. While at Harvard University, he was a doctoral candidate in the  Administrative Careers schema with emphasis being placed on administration of higher education.     Dr. William R. Harvey served as the 12th President of Hampton University. A native of Brewton, Alabama, he is a graduate of Southern Normal High School, Talladega College and Virginia State University.  He earned his doctorate in College Administration from Harvard University in   Before coming to Hampton over four decades ago, he held administrative posts at Harvard, Fisk, and Tuskegee universities.

    As President of Hampton University, Dr. Harvey introduced innovations that solidified Hampton’s stellar position among the nation’s colleges and universities.  His innovative leadership was reflected in the growth and quality of the University’s student population, academic programs, physical facilities, and financial base.  His outstanding leadership skills were exemplified by the appointment of seventeen former Hampton University administrators to CEO positions at other institutions during his tenure.

    During Dr. Harvey’s presidency, student enrollment has
