EDUCATION: Graduated from Rochester Adams High School, Rochester Hills Michigan, in 1980; received a Bachelor of Science degree inMathematics from the United States Naval Academy in 1984; received a Masters of Science degree inEngineering Management from the Florida Institute of Technology in 1997.

George D. Zamka
American astronaut
George David "Zambo" Zamka (born June 29, 1962) is a former NASAastronaut and United States Marine Corpspilot with over 3500 flight hours in more than 30 different aircraft. Zamka piloted the Space Shuttle Discovery in its October 2007 mission to the International Space Station and served as the commander of mission STS-130 in February 2010.

[edit]George David Zamka was born in June 29, 1962 at Margaret Hague Hospital in Jersey City, New Jersey.[1][2] He was raised in New York City; Irvington, New York; Medellin, Colombia;[3] and Rochester Hills, Michigan. He graduated from Rochester Adams High School in Michigan in 1980.
Zamka is married and has two children. His extended family resides in Colorado, Mississippi, Georgia, Indiana, Florida and Tennessee. Zamka is of Colombian[4][5] and Polish ancestry.[6]

NASA Astronaut George Zamka Leaves Agency
HOUSTON – NASA astronaut George Zamka has left the agency and accepted a position with the Federal Aviation Administration supporting Commercial Space Transportation. A veteran of two spaceflights, Zamka served first as pilot on STS-120 in 2007 and three years later as commander on STS-130 in 2010.
Before joining NASA, Zamka served in the U.S. Marine Corps as pilot and flew combat missions during Operation Desert Storm in the Middle East. He was selected to join the astronaut corps in 1998. Before flying in space, he served in multiple technical and leadership roles supporting Johnson Space Center’s Astronaut Office. He served as lead for the shuttle training and procedures division and as supervisor for the astronaut candidate class of 2004. In his current role as a research pilot, and instructor pilot, Zamka provides training for astronauts in NASA aircraft.
