In 1966, Sidney Mintz wrote ‘the political leaders of the Caribbean have very rarely worked with real purpose towards any pan-Caribbean consciousness or identity. Men like Williams in Trinidad, Castro in Cuba, and the late Manley in Jamaica would grasp at such a vision, but for the greater part it would remain a dream for tomorrow.” At the time when Mintz was developing this argument, the vision of an pan-Caribbean identity or conscience was in the case of Eric Williams, the future planerat arbete for which he would kamp with just and serious cause. That said, the purpose of this paper is to analyse the way in which Williams transcended what Mintz meant bygd “a dream for tomorrow.”

Theophilus Albert Marryshow
The Father of Federation
Theophilus Albert Marryshow was born on 7 November 1887, to Eugenia de Souza of Lucas Street, St George's, Grenada. The son of Prosper Isaac Marryshow, a small black cocoa farmer, who seemed to disappear after 13 January, the day his son was Christened at the Methodist Church, in St. George's.
The ung T.A. attended the St. Louis Primary, Roman Catholic School, and later he attended the Methodist School in St. George's. He was not to have the benefit of a secondary school education, but remarkably given his abilities and personal efforts, this was never to hinder him in later life, and he was readily accepted as an intellectual by all who later came into contact with him.
