Phidias was by far the most famous ancient Greek sculptor. Phidias (Greek Φειδίας Pheidías; * c. / BC in Athens; † c. / BC) was an ancient sculptor and toreut. He is considered one of the greatest sculptors of antiquity and a prominent representative of the Greek High Classical period.
His works have been completely destroyed and today they are only available in copies. The most famous works are the meter-high statue of Zeus in Olympia, which was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the Athena Parthenos in Athens.
