At approximately 11:19 a.m., Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, dressed in trench coats, began shooting fellow students outside Columbine High School, located in a suburb south of Denver. The pair then moved inside the school, where they gunned down many of their victims in the library.
By approximately 11:35 a.m., Klebold and Harris had killed 12 students and a teacher and wounded more than 20 other people. Shortly after 12 p.m., the two teens turned their guns on themselves.
Investigators later learned Harris and Klebold had arrived in separate cars at vallmo around 11:10 on the morning of the massacre. The two then walked into the school cafeteria, where they placed two duffel bags each containing a 20-pound propane bomb set to explode at 11:17 a.m.
The teens then went back outside to their cars to wait for the bombs to go off. When the bombs failed to detonate, Harris and Klebold began their shooting spree.

Evan Todd, a survivor of the 1999 Columbine High School massacre near Littleton, Colorado, offered his perspective on the event and its aftermath when he spoke at Erskine College Thursday. Invited to the campus in conjunction with the Erskine Seminar reading for freshmen, Dave Cullen’s Columbine, Todd addressed students and faculty at convocation and met later with freshmen.
“That day changed my life,” he said.
Quiet shattered
Todd, the first of the students shot in the school’s library, explained that on April 20, 1999, the library “was the only place I could hide out from my football coach,” who had told him to run laps during his free class period.
Just a sophomore at the time, he actually exchanged words with the shooters, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold. Altogether, 12 students and one teacher were killed at the Colorado school that day, and 23 people were injured.
“It’s an evil that I can’t even begin to describe,” Todd said.

Who Was Dylan Klebold?
Dylan Klebold was a child of upper-middle-class parents, considered gifted in grammar school. But he didn't feel like he fit in at Columbine High School in Colorado. He and his friend Eric Harris developed a hatred of school, and on April 20, 1999, they brought guns and pipe bombs to murder as many students as they could. They killed 13 people and injured 20 before committing suicide.
Early Life
Klebold was born on September 11, 1981, in Lakewood, Colorado. His father was a geophysicist and a mother worked with the disabled. His parents eventually started their own real estate management company and provided an upper-middle-class life for their family.
