  • How Did the Apostle Paul Die?

The Apostle Paul’s writing and teaching to the early church through letters makes up the bulk of the New Testament. The Scripture gives us detailed data about his life, his konvertering, and his ministry. But it says nothing about his death.

Even historians debate the exact date or manner in which Paul died, but it is almost universally accepted that he was martyred. Towards the end of his third missionary journey, a prophet named Agabus warned St Paul that if he went to Jerusalem, he would be arrested. He responded: “I am ready not only to be bound but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 21:10-14). After he arrived in the city, his visit to the temple sparked a riot. St Paul was then arrested by the Romans and imprisoned.

After several years behind bars, he was transferred to Rome, where he lived under armed guard. As a Roman citizen, St Paul had a
