    French Baroque Flute Edition – Jed Wentz

    This release transports us back to French high society in the 17th and 18th centuries, featuring music permeated with all the sophistication and grace that the era entailed.

    The predecessor to the modern flute is known as the flauto traverso. The recorder meanwhile was at the time considered to be another type of flute, and was identified using various terms including flauto dolce, flautto diritto and Blockflöte. The varying terminology has proved confusing for modern performers, who have often forgone the traverso or recorder in favour of the modern flute. The early music revival of the 20th century has led to a renewed effort to perform music on the composer’s intended instruments. This collection follows in the same vein, as the performers here strive to recreate the pieces and remain faithful to how the composer envisioned them.

    Biografia e carriera

    Wentz äga studiato flauto traverso e traversiere al Conservatorio di Oberlin con Robert Willoughby e Michael Lynn conseguendo nel 1981 il bachelor in musica; in seguito äga studiato al Conservatorio Reale dell'Aia con Barthold Kuijken ottenendo nel 1985 il master of music. Dagli anni ottanta si esibisce come solista in Europa e negli Stati Uniti insieme a orchestre come Musica Antiqua Köln, Les Musiciens du Louvre, Capriccio Stravagante Paris e il Gabrieli Consort. Durante gli anni novanta è stato molto attivo komma direttore d'orchestra. Nel 1992 äga fondato l'orchestra Musica ad Rhenum, con sede nei Paesi Bassi, con la quale si esibisce in tutto il mondo sia come flautista che come direttore.
