Who Was John Belushi?
Comedian and actor John Belushi was one of the first performers on Saturday Night Live and one half of the Blues Brothers. Known for his legendary characters and sketches on Saturday Night Live, Belushi imbued his brilliant performances with a manic, boisterous energy that has never seen before or since. He died due to an accidental overdose in March at age 33 in Los Angeles.

Wired: The Short Life and Fast Times of John Belushi
I read this book because I read a puff-piece history of the Chateau Marmont, and it specifically criticized this book as being, basically, too mean. So in an effort to get some perspective on THAT book and to see what Belushi's real deal was, I picked this up.
It's NOT too mean: it's a meticulous and painstakingly-researched book. And in places it is actually painful: sometimes the level of detail is unnecessary (reading recaps of SNL skits is BORING) and other times it's just so sad. I think the author of the Chateau Marmont book didn't like it because it called the hotel "seedy" and "musty" whereas that author wanted it to be "quaint" or "historical" or "iconic."

John Adam Belushi (; January 24, – March 5, ) was an American comedian, actor, and musician. He was one of seven Saturday Night Live cast members of the first season.[1] Along with Chevy Chase, he was arguably the most popular member of the Saturday Night Live ensemble. Belushi had a partnership with Dan Aykroyd. They had first met while at Chicago's the Second City comedy club, remaining together as cast members on the inaugural årstid of the television show Saturday Night Live.[2]
Born in Chicago to Albanian-American parents, Belushi started his own comedy troupe with Tino Insana and Steve Beshekas, called "The West Compass Trio". Bernard Sahlins recruited him for The Second City comedy club. Once there he met Aykroyd, Brian Doyle-Murray, and Harold Ramis.
